Race 4: No.4 Blazen Boots
The Tony Gollan-trained galloper is in great touch this time in and looks ideally placed here for back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the Tavistock gelding bounced back to score an impressive win in a strong Class 6, here over 1600m with Ben Thompson aboard.
From the outside gate (9), he settled a clear last before finding gaps on the inside where he threaded his way through the field and finished best to collect the gold medal, putting more than a length on them across the line.
Drawn well here in gate five, he maps to settle near mid-field on the fence and will be probing for similar gaps in the run home in this assignment.
A known track specialist, boasting five wins from 12 starts at Doomben, Thompson sticks with him and avoiding any dramas here, the seven-year-old looks the one to beat in this contest.
Race 8: No.2 Hidden Wealth
Another from the Gollan camp, Hidden Wealth is second-up here and looks the one to beat in this event.
Last start, the Better Than Ready gelding resumed off a lengthy 21-week spell when he claimed victory on fresh legs in the Swiss Ace Plate over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast.
Settling mid-field early, he clawed his way into calculations on straightening and finished best to claim the major prize in the race with stable rider Angela Jones in the saddle.
Fitter for that run back, he gets all the favours from gate one here and maps to be box-seating on settling with Jones steering the ship again.
Already a winner when second-up and a two-time winner at the track, the six-year-old should play a leading role in the outcome of this contest.
Race 9: No.2 Foreign Press
Tony Gollan saddles-up Foreign Press here who has found the podium in all six starts this preparation and the indications are that won’t change in this event.
Last start, the Invader filly claimed another top-three finish when she collected third prize in a Three-Year-Old Quality Hcp over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast.
With regular rider Cejay Graham aboard, the filly crossed from gate 11 and sat behind the leaders to the turn before scouting wide and finishing strongly, claiming the minor prize in the 13-strong event.
Ideally drawn in gate two here, she maps to be box-seating with Graham in pride of place again.
Already a winner here (three starts back), the filly is high-flying this time in and looks ideally placed here to chalk-up another win in this contest.
