Pakenham Racing Tips for October 5 – Promising galloper to produce first up win
- Helvecchio (R1) set to improve with strong Flemington debut.
- Bee Admired (R4) brings top last-start figures into a weaker maiden.
- Twisted Love (R6) poised to peak third-up with good barrier draw.
Pakenham racing takes place on Monday, October 5, with a competitive meeting set down for the Pakenham Synthetic.
Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also features in our daily tips.
Race 1 No.2 – Helvecchio
Helvecchio should be hard to beat in the opener at Pakenham. The Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained galloper has had just the one career start, producing a real eye-catcher at Flemington back in June when coming from the rear of the field to place fifth behind Fontaine Jewel in Saturday grade. The three-year-old got a poor start in that race and was forced to work to stay in touch off a strong early tempo before closing off with the fastest last 200m of the race. The son of Castelvecchio has had two trial runs leading into this and draws perfectly in barrier four. I suspect we won't be seeing him in this grade for too long.
Race 4 No.4 – Bee Admired
Bee Admired can go one spot better than a first-up effort that saw her finish runner-up at Kilmore on September 13. The Charlotte Littlefield-trained mare was slow to begin and settled further back than intended before working home nicely with the fastest last 200m to fill the exacta behind Portland Rose. She had some solid form last campaign when runner-up at Pakenham before a game fifth when posted wide throughout in a stronger maiden than this. The four-year-old draws wide and will need some luck in the early stages but does have sufficient gate speed to find a spot with cover in the forward half. This is a weak maiden and she comes in with the best last-start benchmark figures of any runner. Expected to go close.
Race 6 No.8 – Twisted Love
Going with Twisted Love in Race 6. The five-year-old has had two runs this time in and was disadvantaged by a slow tempo at Mornington when resuming, settling back before producing the fastest last 200m to finish runner-up behind Coronation Hercules. The third placegetter from that race has since come out and won. Twisted Love has had one start since, with that coming at Caulfield, where she had no luck whatsoever between the 400m and 200m when looking to have plenty to offer before eventually settling for fourth behind All Business. The Gavin Bedggood-trained mare comes into this third-up, and at the same stage of her last preparation, she was a 12-length improver on benchmark figures when scoring at Newcastle for Ciaron Maher. The daughter of Vanbrugh draws perfectly in barrier four and should be hard to beat.
