Sha Tin racing takes place on Sunday, October 4, with a competitive meeting set down for Sha Tin.

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also feature in our comprehensive preview of Sunday racing.

Race 2 No.13 – Kol

Kol can break through in Race 2. The four-year-old has taken a few runs to get going but was an improver at his most recent start, placing fourth over 1200m behind Happy Shooter. That was his first run of the season, with the David Hayes-trained galloper settling outside the leader on a solid tempo before sticking on to finish within two lengths of the winner. The son of Deep Field draws much better than he did last time and shouldn't have to work as hard in the early stages, while Zac Purton jumps aboard for the first time. This looks his race.

Race 3 No.2 – Talents Ambition

This is a nice race, with the Class 2 gallopers stepping out on the All Weather Track, and Talents Ambition can kick off his campaign with a win. The Mark Newnham-trained galloper steps out for the first time this season and loves the surface, having closed out his 2025/26 campaign with a victory at the track and trip back in June at Class 3 level. He looks ready for another crack at Class 2 and was solid at his previous first-up run, which came at this meeting a year ago when finishing runner-up. The six-year-old is another early chance on the program for Purton and should enjoy the perfect trail from barrier four in the small field.

Race 6 No.8 – Hero Rising

It was a promising return by Hero Rising at the September 13 meeting at Sha Tin, with the four-year-old leading at a solid pace before tiring late in the final 400m to place fourth behind Absolute Awakened. He pinged the gates and crossed from a wide draw on that occasion, but the son of King's Legacy shouldn't have to work as hard this time around and may be able to take a sit with cover after drawing barrier four. Lyle Hewitson takes the ride, and with Hero Rising now at his second run back, he should be fitter for that first-up effort. Expect him to go close.

Race 8 No.5 – Flow Water Flow

Flow Water Flow looks set to pounce when he steps out in Race 8, the Chinese Recreation Club Challenge Cup. The John Size-trained galloper has had two runs this time in over 1400m and was unlucky last time, held up at a crucial stage before eventually placing fourth. He now steps out to 1800m and was a winner at his only previous attempt at the trip during his debut campaign, which was the second of back-to-back victories after initially breaking through over 1600m. The five-year-old will likely settle worse than midfield, and with any degree of tempo in the race, he should be doing his best work late.
