Race 4: No.3 Exceeding Limits
The Mark Cross-trained galloper is three starts into this preparation and now looks ready to win.
Last start, the Exceedance gelding was unwanted in the market ($26) but put in a bold performance to finish third in a Maiden Plate over 1350m at Wyong.
Settling last of the nine runners and spotting the leaders nine lengths, he was the widest on the turn and finished strongly to grab the minor prize on the line.
Well drawn in gate three here, he maps to settle in the back half of the field with Jean Van Overmeire as the new pilot.
At his peak fourth-up here, a clear run to the line should see him powering home again and a winning chance in this contest.
Race 5: No.1 Longinus
The Brad Widdup-trained galloper is second-up here and looks well placed to challenge for victory in this event.
Last start, the Pride of Dubai gelding resumed after eight months in the paddock and wasn’t far away when finishing fifth in a Class 1 Hcp over 1200m at Kembla Grange.
Trying to lead all the way, he did well setting the pace and still there in run home where his condition gave out and he faded in the final stages, still finishing just 1.5 lengths off the winner.
He draws well in gate three here and maps to settle just off the pace with Christian Reith retaining the ride.
Fitter for that run back, he has placed when second-up previously and given a clear run to the line, he should be there at the finish in this contest.
Race 6: No.6 Edge Of Midnight
In career-best form this time in, the Paul Perry-trained galloper ticks all boxes that suggest he is the one to beat in this event.
Last start, the six-year-old came off a big win in Class 2 company at Port Macquarie when he stepped-up to Class 3 level and repeated the dose, winning that 1258m event at Taree.
Coming from back in the field, he found the front soon after straightening and hung on well for that victory with Ben Looker aboard.
Nicely drawn in gate five here, Ash Morgan takes over as pilot where he faces BM68 rivalry but drops 2kgs for the assignment.
At the top of his game this preparation, a trouble-free run in here should see him first past the post in this contest.
