Caulfield Racing Tips for July 11 – Four-year-old has the edge in the Monash Stakes

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which is one of the major metropolitan race meetings from around Australia that we are covering in our daily tips.

Going with Egyptian Dance in the opener. The Gavin Bedggood filly was solid when resuming over the 1000m here on June 27, making a midrace move to work up behind the leaders before just tiring late when runner-up behind Lucky Brook, going nearly four lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is a better figure than what any horse in this race has produced in their careers to date. She will take improvement from that outing and will look to settle handy again. Look for her to be hard to hold out at the business end. 

The feature at Caulfield is the John Monash Stakes and Winnasedge can measure up to this level. The promising four-year-old has won five of 15 and likes the Caulfield 1100m with two wins from as many starts at the track and trip. They include a last start effort when sitting handy before edging past Bazaball Rewarded by more than a length, while there was two further back to 3rd. The Nick Ryan-trained galloper drops 2kg and will be at peak fitness now after three runs. He will look to find a spot behind the leading pair with the field to string out a bit as Beast Mode injects a bit of speed into it. 

Going with Ten Commandments to make it a hat-trick of wins when he steps out in Race 8. The six-year-old is in career best form and is flying on Heavy tracks of late, winning his two starts this time in by a combined margin of nearly seven lengths. He cruised to victory as a $2.10 favourite last time at Flemington ahead of Thebelmontgangster, going a very respectable 16 lengths faster than standard. Pace looks solid here with Rise At Dawn and Magnaspin among a few that like to roll along and with just 50kg on his back after the claim for the promising Tasmanian, Jabez Johnstone, he should be very hard to beat.
