Canterbury racing takes place on Wednesday, September 16 with a 7-race program set down for the Canterbury racetrack.

The John Thompson-trained galloper is in top shelf form this preparation and looks set to go on with it in this event.

Last start, the Adelaide gelding came off a second-up BM72 win when he faced similar company and beat all but one home over 1800m at Rosehill.

From gate 10 (of 12), Zac Lloyd had him cross and take up the lead on settling where he set a good speed, leading by eight lengths nearing the turn, then in the run home, he looked set to score but was nailed right on the line by one better on the day.

Facing the same grade here, he draws gate nine (of 11) and maps to cross and lead them again with Nash Rawiller as the new pilot.

At his peak today, he will take catching again in this contest.

Race 5: No.8 Whatalegacy

Bjorn Baker saddles-up Whatalegacy here who resumes after almost 12 months off the scene and with a couple of successful trials under his belt, he looks all set for a positive return to the track in this event.

Last start, the King’s Legacy gelding ended his three-start campaign where he came off back-to-back wins and then beat all but one home in a BM68 over 1100m at Warwick Farm.

Dylan Gibbons settled him second one off the fence to the turn before taking over on straightening and looked set to score but he was run down by Miss Freelove, leaving him with second prize on the day.

Since being spelled, he has been gelded and has trialled twice, winning his most recent trial comfortably with James McDonald (J.Mac) aboard.

On fresh legs today, he jumps from barrier eight and maps to cross and settle in the first half-dozen with J.Mac as the new pilot.

Already a winner when first-up (on debut), he could prove hard to hold out in this contest.

Race 7: No.8 Pappa Blue

The Team Archibald-trained galloper is second-up here and looks well placed to improve even further in this event.

Last start, the Almanzor gelding resumed off a 19-week break and did well to finish third in a BM68 over 1400m at Kembla Grange.

Adam Farragher settled him back in the field, 10 lengths off the pace to the turn where he scouted wide and still a mile back, he stormed home to grab the minor prize, beaten just a length on the line.

Facing BM72 company here, he draws well in gate five and maps to settle near mid-field and after steering him to victory previously, Tom Sheery returns to take the reins again for this assignment.

Already a winner when second-up, the step-up to the 1550m looks ideal for him now and he should be there at the finish of this contest.
