Caulfield Racing Tips for September 16 – Elvis to bounce back after last start defeat
- Zoucity tipped to win Race 1 based on recent progress and stamina.
- Prevention rated highly for Race 2 with strong speed figures and fit form.
- Electric Elvis backed to rebound in Race 8 with proven front-running ability.
Caulfield racing takes place on Wednesday, September 16, with a competitive metropolitan meeting set down for Caulfield.
Here are our best bets from the meeting, which is one of the major meetings from around Australia that we are previewing in our midweek tips.
Race 1 No.8 – Zoucity
Looking to get the day off to a flyer and Zoucity can prevail in the opener. The Chris Waller-trained galloper has had just the two career starts, placing at Geelong on debut over the 1225m before stepping up to the 1500m last time at Sandown and finishing 4th behind Boys Bounce. He was just a tad too keen early before working into the race and peaking late to land just over a length from the winner. He should be better for his second go at the trip and just needs to relax and get into some rhythm early on.
Race 2 No.7 – Prevention
Prevention is worth some thought in Race 2. The four-year-old was a dominant winner at Geelong three starts ago when leading all the way, then was flat after that before an improved effort when 6th at Sandown over the 1400m on September 9. She led them up in that race at a solid tempo and did well to stick on to be beaten only two lengths. The four-year-old set a career best by going 3.6 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last-start figure of any runner in this race. She should be rock-hard fit and gives the impression that the 1600m should suit, while there does look to be a lack of pressure in this race, with a number of her rivals likely to get back in the small field. Jackson Radley rides and claims 2kg.
Race 8 No.2 – Electric Elvis
Electric Elvis can bounce back in Race 8. The five-year-old went down as a $1.40 favourite last time at Bendigo over the 1400m on a Heavy 8, costing himself at the start when slowly away before settling towards the tail in the small field. The leaders jogged in that and he just could not make up the required ground with 61.5kg. The Reece Goodwin-trained galloper was dominant prior to that and has finished in the top two at his past four starts, with his wins coming by a combined margin of more than eight lengths. He draws wide but has the early speed to cross over and take up his preferred front-running role. With any luck early on, he should be hard to beat.
