Our blackbookers to follow from racing on February 5 with the Blackbook.com.au team assembling their runners to follow from the Caulfield, Doomben, Morphettville and Randwick cards.

CAULFIELD

Race 1 - El Patroness (third): For a filly who is going to thrive between a mile and 2000m, she returned in beautiful order over 1400m. Nearly breaking 11 seconds for her final 200m, more than a length quicker than any other horse in the race and the fastest on the day she was the flashing light run for a step up in trip. Over 1600m second-up, she'll prove hard to beat.

Race 8 - The Garden (second): Loved the return from this gelding, who looked above average last prep and was beaten in the highest rating race of the day on Saturday. He will be greatly improved from the effort and can stay in this grade next start and prove hard to beat, with punters likely to have another go at him again due to his consistency across his career.

DOOMBEN

Race 3 - Ef Troop (first): Glad to see Ef Troop find the winner’s stall as he has always had an abundance of talent and borderline Group ability in open company. The key is firmer footing and the track was drying out on Saturday (albeit still soft) which did favour him. He can race up in class next start and if on good ground, the gelding can notch up back-to-back wins.

Race 7 - Palladas (third): Train wreck is how you would describe the run. Lcky to stay on his feet around the bend but in hindsight, he was beaten less than a length so he clearly should have won. Not expecting value as such next start, but a win is well and truly on the card, while stepping up in grade would be no knock as there is a very good motor there.

MORPHETTVILLE PARKS

Race 4 - Zoist (third): Suspect the form will stack up nicely for this gelding, with a field of mostly hard fit and in-form sprinters contesting this BM68, whereas this returner has recorded all four wins at 1400m. Beaten for speed over the sprint trip, he was chasing a long way out and coming from wide/off speed is always a task on the Parks circuit. Nice return.

Race 5 - Larimer Street (fourth): Although entitled to run on off a strong tempo, this four-year-old makes this very interesting if you swap the runs with Octane, who was in clean air at the top of the straight, while Larimer Street was held-up for much of the run home. Listed winner as two-year-old and is still lightly raced. Should only improve off this.

RANDWICK

Race 5 - Through Irish Eyes (fifth): Recorded the fastest closing splits and was the only runner in this 1600m event to break 34 seconds for the last 600m. Has had just the one prep, which included a maiden win at 2200m and a St Leger victory at 2800m, so was always going to find this too sharp on return. A nice platform for perhaps a Sydney Cup prep.

Race 9 - Rustic Steel (third): He was set a task in spotting weight to Maotai and Silent Impact, who will be both competing in three-year-old stakes races this campaign, but it was still a solid first-up showing and he generally settles much closer to the speed. Handles any conditions, is lightly raced and may well get to 1400m later this campaign.

Race 10 - Luncies (fifth): Was only a stride off grabbing Purple Sector, a fit miler that has been decent form and suspect there's a few coming winners that finished around him (No Compromise, Mightybeel). This was a stronger resumption than last prep, where he was around the mark at group level and at 2000m + is when he comes into his own.
