Race 4: No.16 Over Spray
The Kelly Schweida-trained galloper is in top-shelf form this preparation and looks a strong chance for a podium finish in this event.
Last start, the Harry Angel gelding was second-up and went one better when he broke through for his first win taking out a Maiden Plate over 1000m at the Gold Coast.
Georgina Cartwright had him settled second on the leader’s heels to the turn, then soon after took control and making light work of the Heavy 8 conditions, went on to score a comfortable win in the end.
From gate seven, speed maps show him settling on or near the speed here with Cartwright in the irons again and taking on her own age group, drops 6kgs for the assignment and looks a genuine each-way show in this contest.
Race 6: No.10 Within The Law
The Bjorn Baker-trained galloper has had no at all in his three starts this time in but gets his chance to grab the gold medal in this event.
Last start, the Lucky Vega filly wasn’t disgraced when finishing unplaced in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara over 1400m at Eagle Farm.
She settled mid-field early before losing her spot and ended up third last, 12 lengths off the speed before Tommy Berry pushed forward but had to take the turn via the cape and with little to no chance of winning, stormed home to beat the majority of them to the line, finishing seventh overall, a tick over three lengths from victory.
Dropping back to Group 3 competition here, she draws wide in gate 11 (of 16) and maps to cross and settle mid-field with cover and has Dylan Gibbons as the new pilot for this assignment.
Placed twice at this level previously, the three-year-old is at her peak here and looks a real chance of figuring in the finish of this contest.
Race 8: No.8 Gerringong
Team Munce saddle-up Gerringong here who is third-up and will be looking for another podium finish in this event.
Last start, the Blue Point mare put in a mighty effort to finish third in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara over 1400m at Eagle Farm.
From gate 12, Nash Rawiller settled her back in the field where she tracked the majority of the field to the turn, then looking for room inside, was held-up several times and collided with others before finally getting clear inside the last 200m where she hit the line strongly, arriving in time to grab the minor prize.
Dropping back to Listed company here, she draws ideally in gate two and maps to settle on the fence in the first half-dozen runners.
Placed three times previously at this level and fitter for two runs back, the four-year-old should prove hard to beat in this contest.
