Who were the eyecatchers, who should you add to your black book for upcoming races and meetings and who do we recommended following in the weeks and months ahead?
Race 5: BM72 (1400m) – Tarzing
The Chris Waller-trained galloper was fresh off a 16-week spell on Saturday and was a shade unlucky when finishing third in this event.
Box-seating to the turn, Mollie Fitzgerald tried valiantly to secure a run but was boxed-in most of the way home and only found clear running room over the final 100m but still managed to grab the minor prize in the race.
The four-year-old won second-up last preparation and I see no reason why he can’t achieve that goal this time in.
Race 6: BM72 (1100m) – Benevac
The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper was second-up on Saturday and from barrier rise was never on the track as he travelled three-deep to the turn before tracking even wider on straightening, then ran home strongly to be beaten a whisker on the line, taking home second prize in the end.
Now eight starts into his career, the Bivouac gelding has found the podium on five occasions and looks to be a promising type with his best yet to come.
As he matures now, the three-year-old could be looking for a bit further in his races from this point.
Race 7: BM78 (1300m) – Sir Artie
Resuming after six months off the scene, the Team Archibald-trained galloper was unwanted in the market on Saturday ($61) but still made a sound impression when finishing fourth in this event.
He settled back near last early with Mollie Fitzgerald aboard and sticking to the fence, he was tightened for room on straightening before finally securing a path and over the final 150m hit the line strongly, beaten less than three lengths in the end, after spotting them eight lengths on the turn.
His efforts turned plenty of heads and already a two-time winner when second-up, find a spot for him in your black books as he is really one to watch in the future.
