Racing was at Sandown on Saturday June 13 for a nine-race programme.

Here are our blackbookers and horses to follow from the action.

Race 1 - 2yo (1000m) - Mbube 🥇 (1st)

Mbube announced himself as a colt with a bright future when making a winning debut after being heavily backed from $12 into $3.50. The son of Rubick recorded the fastest final 200m of the entire meeting and put his rivals away with authority over the closing stages. Trainer Lloyd Kennewell has already flagged a spring campaign aimed at the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, describing him as one of the best horses in his stable. With natural improvement to come and a strong turn of foot, he looks capable of measuring up in much stronger company.

Race 4 - 3yo (1400m) - Cardamom 🥈 (2nd)

Cardamom returned from a six-week freshen-up with an eye-catching runner-up effort behind the in-form Clever Trever, who brought four consecutive wins into the race. She struck interference near the 800m, was held up from the 400m until approaching the 200m and still managed to produce the fastest final 200m of the race once clear. The daughter of Tavistock appears ready to step up in trip and should relish distances around 1600m at her next few starts. With even luck in running, she looks capable of breaking through soon.

Race 6 - Benchmark 84 (1000m) - Beast Mode 🥈 (2nd)

Beast Mode produced a strong first-up performance when leading at a genuine tempo and giving a bold kick from the 800m before being worn down late. The speed was on throughout and he was entitled to weaken over the final stages after doing plenty of work in front. While he has shown previously that 1000m is his optimum trip, he will derive significant fitness benefit from the run and should strip much fitter second-up. His form from last preparation was solid and he looks well placed to return to winning form in similar sprint races over the coming weeks.
