Steve Bennett picks out his blackbookers and horses to follow from Saturday racing at Eagle Farm on 13 June.

Race 1: The Wayne Wilson (Listed) (1600m) – Yellow Jersey

The Team McEvoy-trained gelding had his first start on Australian soil on Saturday and resuming after eight months off the scene did well to take home second prize in this Listed event.

Bringing first-class form with him from France, Mark Zahra had him box-seating to the turn, then in the run home, took the lead but his condition gave out seeing the former leader (War Eternal) fight back and grab victory from the Dubawi gelding.

He will only improve off that run and is already a winner when second and third-up so stick with him for now.

Race 2: Oxlade Stakes (Listed) (1200m) – Cool Gent

Clearly the eye-catching run of the day came from the Team Barling-trained two-year-old who was tailed off (by 4 lengths) before performing a minor miracle and taking home the gold medal in the race.

Still seeing them all on straightening, eight lengths off the lead, the $31 chance weaved his way through traffic and somehow got up to score by a length on the line.

Third-up and jumping from gate 13 (of 14), this was a performance not to be forgotten and the Winning Rupert gelding looks to have a bright future on the track so keep him safe.

Race 6: Dane Ripper Stakes (Group 2) (1300m) – Gerringong

Fresh off a 15-week spell, the Team Munce-trained galloper faced black-type opposition on Saturday and very nearly beat them all, finishing second, beaten a neck on the line.

Never on the track, the Blue Point mare sat mid-field and three-deep to the turn before tracking even wider, then in the run home, finished strongly and wore down all but one in front of her to grab second prize on the line.

It was a mighty effort to secure a podium finish under the circumstances and already a winner when second-up, it should pay to follow her progress from here.
