Race 5: No.11 Rock ‘n’ The Jam
The Russell Stewart-trained galloper is third-up here and ticks the right boxes that suggest he can figure in this event.
Last start, the Awesome Rock gelding was second-up and not disgraced when finishing fourth in a Rating 72, here over 1400m.
Drawn the outside gate (8), Steven Parnham eased him back to the tail of the field where he trailed the field to the turn, then in the run home, spotted them too much start and was unable to make up the ground, finishing just behind the placegetters on the day.
Although well drawn here in gate four, he maps to again settle back in the field with visiting NSW rider Tyler Schiller in the saddle for this assignment and already a winner third-up, the four-year-old looks a serious player in this contest.
Race 6: No.5 Niccimota
Jim Taylor saddles-up Niccimota here who has found form at the right time and looks a solid chance of back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the Nicconi mare found her mojo and registered her first win for this campaign when she took out a Class 3 Hcp over 1000m at Belmont.
Leading from barrier to box, Chanel Cooper had her showing the way early and in the run home, the mare just ran away from them, crossing the line almost two lengths clear in the end.
Drawn out in gate nine here, she maps to push forward and settle on the speed with regular rider Chanel Cooper remaining aboard and in winning form now, she looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 7: No.1 Beatty
The Team Casey-trained galloper in unbeaten in three starts to date and looks ideally placed here to go on with it in this year’s Karrakatta Plate.
Last start, the Gingerbread Man colt was fresh off a 19-week spell when he still had many guns when taking out the Listed Perth Stakes, here over 1100m.
He settled second in the run outside the leader before drawing level on the turn, then battling it out in the run home, finishing best on the line to beat his stablemate.
They meet-up again here with Beatty getting the gun-run from gate one and will settle on the speed with William Pike returning for the ride after steering him to both victories last campaign.
The stable swap the winkers for the blinkers here and fitter for that first-up run, he looks the testing material in this contest.
