Race 5: No.5 Ready For The Trip
The Tony Gollan-trained galloper is three starts into this preparation and now looks ready to produce his best in this event.
Last start, the Better Than Ready gelding was third-up and showed plenty of improvement when he beat all but one home in a Class 3 at set weights, here over 1600m.
From the outside gate (11), Ben Thompson settled him fourth early before working home well to be beaten just half a length on the line.
Drawn in gate ten here, he maps to push forward and settle better than mid-field with Ryan Maloney back in the saddle, after steering the gelding to three career wins from his five rides to date.
A track specialist, boasting three wins and as many minor placings from eight starts at the track, at his peak here, he should figure in the finish of this contest.
Race 7: No.13 Ten Deep
Another from the Gollan stable, Ten Deep is in top-shelf form this preparation and looks well placed here to give this event a real shake.
Last start, the Irish-sired mare came off a win when she just missed another, beating home all but one in a BM70 Hcp, here over 1400m.
Carrying 58.5kgs (after the claim), she took the turn mid-field, then over the final 150m, hit the line strongly and take home the silver medal in the race.
Jumping from barrier eight here, she maps to settle in the first half-dozen with Emily Lang returning after steering her to victory two starts back.
Already a winner at Eagle Farm, the five-year-old looks a serious contender for the big prize in this contest.
Race 8: No.6 Spanish Treasure
Second-up here, the Tony Gollan-trained galloper has missed a top-three finish just once in his seven career-starts to date and looks set to add another one in this event.
Last start, the Pierata gelding resumed after 11 weeks off the scene when he finished a close-up third in a Three-Year-Old Hcp, here over 1200m.
Sent out the $2.50 favourite, he settled mid-field early before working into the race nearing the turn, then ran home hard to figure in a three-way finish, taking the minor prize in the end with just a long neck separating them.
Taking on Listed company here, he draws ideally in gate two where he maps to settle just off the pace and has Ryan Maloney backing-up for the ride.
Placed four times from his five visits to the track, he is overdue for a win here and with a trouble-free run, it can happen in this contest.
