Townsville racing takes place on Friday, September 18 with an 8-race program set down for the Townsville racetrack.

The Sharlee Hoffman-trained galloper is in great touch of late and down in grade today, looks major player for the big prize in this event.

Last start, the Zousain mare came off a win at Atherton and stepping up in grade did well to finish third in a BM60 over the 950m sprint at Cairns.

Lacey Morrison settled her just behind the speed to the turn before scouting wide on the corner, then tightened for room and hampered in the run home, she finally got clear and finished off gamely to take home the minor prize in the race.

Dropping back to BM 0-55 company here, she draws nicely in gate two and maps to settle mid-field or better with Morrison steering the ship again.

At her peak here, the five-year-old looks well placed to get the job done in this contest.

Race 4: No.2 Tambo’s Justice

The Georgie Holt-trained galloper is high-flying after four starts back and will be out to bounce back in this event.

Last start, the Justify gelding came off a good win in the Townsville Cleveland Bay Quality and found the task of backing-up a little too much when he finished sixth in the Cairns Newmarket over 1400m at Cairns.

Sitting up near the speed early took a lot out of him as he travelled with them to the turn, then in the run home, just ran out of steam to finish 3.5 lengths from the winner in the end.

Back to his home track today, he jumps from the outside gate in barrier eight and maps to cross and settle mid-field or better.

Aidan Holt has ridden him three times previously for three wins and returns to take the reins for this assignment.

A true track specialist here, he boasts three wins and two minor placings from five starts at the track and distance and at his peak today, he looks the testing material in this contest.

Race 8: No.10 Russian Summer

The Steven Royes-trained galloper is second-up today and dropping back in distance, looks well placed to be a genuine contender in this event.

Last start, the Russian Revolution gelding resumed after six months off the scene and in need of the run, finished unplaced in a Class 4 Hcp, here over 1200m.

Ryan Wiggins settled him mid-field on the fence to the turn before tracking wide and in the run home, his lack of race fitness told in the end but to his credit he still hit the line well after such a long time away from the track.

Back to the 1000m sprint here, he draws well in gate three and maps to settle better than mid-field with ‘Lethal’ Lacey Morrison back for her ninth ride on the gelding, having already steered him to victory twice previously.

Already a winner when second-up and has had success at the Cluden Park track before, the seven-year-old should give a bold sight in this contest.
