Newcastle racing takes place on Friday, September 18 with an 8-race program set down for the Newcastle racetrack.

The Chris Waller-trained galloper is two starts back from a five-month absence and should now be ready to fire in this event.

Last start, the So You Think gelding finished mid-field in a strong BM72 Hcp over 1600m at Warwick Farm.

James McDonald had him settled two pairs back to the turn before coming off heels and in the run home battled on gamely but was beaten by the class on the day.

Dropping back sharply in grade here, he takes on Class 1 company at provincial level and from barrier eight, maps to cross and settle just behind the speed and after steering him to his maiden win at Wyong, Tommy Berry returns to take the reins for this assignment.

Fitter for those two runs here, a trouble-free run should see him there at the finish of this contest.

Race 5: No.4 Snitzel Dancer

The Rosehill-based galloper is second-up today and ticks enough boxes to suggest she can play a leading role in this event.

Last start, the Snitzel mare was fresh off a 17-week spell and wasn’t disgraced when finishing fifth in the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes over 1350m at Wyong.

Kerrin McEvoy settled her back in the field to the turn where she came off heels and although too far back to be considered a real winning chance, she found her top-speed inside the final 100m and was finishing better than any other as she crossed the line 1.5 lengths from the winner.

Fitter for that hit-out, she draws well in gate three and maps to settle near mid-field with McEvoy in the saddle again.

Already a winner at Group 3 level, the four-year-old looks well placed here to make her Newcastle debut a winning one in this contest.

Race 7: No.12 Mr Miller

Chris Waller saddles-up Mr Miller here who is yet to miss a podium finish in five career starts and third-up today, looks a major threat in this event.

Last start, the Almanzor gelding came off a first-up win at Warwick Farm when he franked that effort by taking out a BM78 over 1500m at Rosehill.

Tommy Berry had him box-seating on settling to the turn before coming off the leader’s heels and soon after took control before finding another gear and racing away to score effortlessly by three lengths on the line.

Facing his first black-type challenge today, he draws wide in gate 11 (of 14) where he maps to push forward and cross to settle in the first half-dozen with Berry steering the ship again.

Dropping 3.5kgs for this assignment, the four-year-old looks the testing material in this contest.
