Race 5: No.2 Birdman
The Chris Waller-trained galloper is third-up today and down in grade, looks set for back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the Irish-sired gelding was second-up when he proved too good for them in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes over 1600m at Flemington.
Ben Melham rode him a treat that day and after settling mid-field, finished too strong in the end, crossing the line almost two lengths ahead of the 10-strong field.
Back in Sydney now, he drops back to Group 3 company and has Nash Rawiller on board for this assignment.
From barrier eight, he maps to cross and settle near field and already a winner over the 2000m trip, he should prove hard to beat in this contest.
Race 6: No.8 Mal Coupe
Finishing top-two in his past eight starts, the Stephen O’Halloran-trained galloper has consistency as a middle name and ticks the boxes here that suggest he is a serious contender for the major prize in this event.
Last start, the Xtravagant gelding went back-to-back when he clobbered his rivals in a BM88 over 1200m at Randwick.
Ridden the perfect race by James McDonald, he was box-seating on settling before crossing off heels on the turn where soon after he took control and then went on to score by 1.5 lengths with some to spare in the end.
This is his first look at black-type racing as he faces Group 3 company here where he draws well in gate five and maps to be stalking the front runners again with regular rider Winona Costin back in the saddle, having ridden to four of his six career wins to date.
Third-up and already a winner at the track and trip, he should prove hard to hold out again in this contest.
Race 10: No.6 Eye Of The Fire
The Team Archibald-trained galloper is in great touch after four starts this campaign and ticks enough boxes here to get interested in an each-way investment for this event.
Last start, the well-bred Epaulette gelding found the podium for the third time this preparation when he beat all but one home in a BM88 over 1200m at Randwick.
Drawn the carpark in gate 13, he was never on the track, caught wide throughout, but still managed to grab second prize on the line with Adam Hyeronimus in the saddle, beaten just 1.5 lengths in the end.
Drawn the middle of the field in gate ten here, he maps to cross and find a sit mid-field or better with Hyeronimus steering the ship again.
Facing similar company here, he has placed in three of his past four attempts at this level and at his peak, he can figure again as is well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
