Race 1: No.9 Provance
Mark Currie saddles-up Provance here who is high-flying after three starts this preparation and looks a genuine winning chance in this event.
Last start, the Star Witness gelding scored a second win this time in when he took out a BM70 over 1000m at Eagle Farm with Cody Collis aboard.
Box-seating on settling, he trailed the leader into the straight and sticking to the fence, gained the upper hand and despite a late challenge by the race-favourite, held him at bay and went to score in the end, with the rest of the field finishing more than four lengths adrift.
Stepping-up in grade here, he draws wide in gate ten but maps to cross and settle better than mid-field with Collis in charge again.
At his peak and down 2kgs for the assignment, he looks in the mix for another big finish in this contest.
Race 2: No.6 Dominant Darcy
The Tony Gollan-trained galloper is in white-hot form and looks set to continue the trend in this event.
Last start, the Zousain mare rang-up career-win number three when she took out a Class 3 at set weights over 1200m at Doomben.
Emily Lang settled her just off the pace and after trailing the leader into the straight, she stuck to the fence and finished best to claim victory on the line.
From gate six, she maps to settle in the first half-dozen and has Angela Jones in the saddle for this assignment.
Top two finishes from all five career starts to date paints a picture here and taking on similar company has her labelled as the one to beat in this contest.
Race 7: No.10 Chief In Charge
The Matt Hoysted-trained galloper is in career-best form and looks well placed here to figure at odds in this event.
Last start, the Pierata gelding was shooting for the hat-trick and pulled it off when he claimed victory in a No-Metro-Wins Hcp over 1350m at Doomben.
Settling just off the speed, he came off the leader’s heels in the run home and despite losing a plate in running, still finished best to claim the winner’s cheque over the line.
This looks no harder and from barrier eight, he maps to settle mid-field in a race full of early speed and has Damien Thornton backing-up for the ride.
If he can stay in touch with them and secure a clear run to the line, he looks a solid each-way chance in this contest.
