Last start, the Playing God gelding resumed after more than five months off the scene and did well when he beat all but one home in a set weights Maiden over 1300m at Belmont.
Drawn the outside gate (12), William Pike settled him last in the field, three-wide with cover to the turn, then coming off heels, he went for home as the widest runner and just missed out on the major prize, beaten a head on the line.
From gate nine today, he maps to settle near mid-field with Pike calling the shots again and fitter for that first-up run, he should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 3: No.2 Esta Mirando
The Team Williams-trained galloper is third-up here and down in grade today, looks well placed to bounce back and give this event a real fright.
Last start, the Irish-bred filly came off a first-up win when she stepped-up sharply in grade and finished last of the nine in the Listed Raconteur Stakes over 1400m at Belmore.
Always well back, she travelled wide throughout and simply had nothing left in the run home to try and match it with them.
Returning to provincial company here, she faces a three-year-old Hcp today where the filly draws gate nine and maps to settle near mid-field with William Pike returning for the ride after steering her to all three career wins to date.
Already a winner when third-up, covering less ground here can see the filly there at the finish in this contest.
Race 5: No.8 Dance On Son
Second-up today, the Darren McAuliffe-trained galloper impressed when first-up and looks certain to go on with it in this event.
Last start, the Snippetson gelding resumed after 34 weeks off the scene and impressed when he broke through for his first win, taking out a set weights Maiden over 1000m at Bunbury.
Sent out a red-hot favourite ($2.00), Lucy Fiore settled him second, camped right on the leader’s heels to the turn, then eased off the fence he was shown the whip and responded quickly by taking over inside the final 200m, going on to score a comfortable win in the end.
Stepping-up to Class 1 competition today, he also sees the 1200m for the first time but gets all the favours from gate one with Fiore in the saddle again.
Fitter for that first-up effort, a trouble-free run here should see him very hard to beat in this contest.
