Steve Bennett picks out his blackbookers and horses to follow from Saturday racing at Ipswich on 20 June.

Race 1: Class 3 Hcp (1350m) – Davikar

The Deep Field mare was second-up on Saturday and showed further improvement when a fast finishing fourth in this event.

Settling mid-field early, she lost her position approaching the turn and ended up too far back to be a winning chance but after being held up early in the run home, Robbie Dolan worked her into the clear and she finished off strongly, beaten just two lengths on the line.

Unbeaten in two third-up appearances to date, be on her next start.

Race 6: Schweppes TL Clooney (1350m) – Lockyer

The Tony Gollan-trained gelding was second-up off a 22-week absence on Saturday and although missing out on the money, still caught the eye with a positive effort in the race.

Leaving the gates from barrier nine, he was never on the track, settling back in the field and travelling three-deep to the turn before Ben Thompson hooked him even wider as they straightened and in the run home, made up good ground to finish sixth, beaten just over two lengths on the line.

Already a winner when third-up, he can only improve further off his first two runs back and looks well worth following for now.

Race 8: Eye Liner Stakes (Listed) (1350m) – John Rambo

The Tony Gollan-trained three-year-old was fresh off a 22-week absence and tackling Listed company on fresh legs, did well to finish fifth in the event.

Caught back in the field early, Cejay Graham made her move nearing the turn and had the gelding tracking wide but held up in the run home before weaving through traffic and once clear, hit the line hard to finish just two lengths from victory over the line.

He is a third-up winner and with better luck at the gates, he should improve even further from here.
