Steve Bennett picks out his blackbookers and horses to follow from Saturday racing at Randwick on 20 June.

Race 1: Class 3 Highway Hcp (1200m) – Hurry Miss

The Matt Dale-trained mare resumed off a five-month break and really lived up to her name when she claimed third prize in this event on Saturday.

Drawn the outside gate (15)in the race, Siena Grima settled the mare two lengths last, a dozen from the leader to the turn, then tracking wide, she could still see them all at the 300m mark before hitting top gear when she stormed home to grab the minor prize in the race, beaten less than three lengths on the line.

Yet to miss a podium finish in three second-up appearances, that record can very easily remain intact next start as she should improve even further with that run under her belt.

Race 8: BM94 Hcp (1200m) – Sunshineinmypocket

Arguably the eye-catcher of the day, the Ciaron Maher-trained gelding produced an amazing finish to claim his second-straight win this preparation.

Nash Rawiller settled him back in the field (on the fence) to the turn, then was held-up with a wall of horses around him before finding the gap inside the final 200m where he showed an incredible turn-of-foot and hit top gear, arriving in time to claim the big prize and remain unbeaten this time in.

His third-up record is also strong and he appears to be on target for another big performance next start so stick with him for now.

Race 9: Civic Stakes (Listed) (1400m) – McHale

The Chris Waller-trained gelding resumed on Saturday after seven months off the scene and turned plenty of heads when finishing fifth in this event.

From gate nine, Tommy Berry settled him third-last, ten lengths off the lead, then on the turn, he was held up before crossing heels and although no chance of winning, he hit the line strongly, finishing better than anything else, crossing the line three lengths from the winner in the end.

It was an admirable effort on fresh legs in Listed company and already a winner when second-up, keep an eye out for him when he runs around next time.
