Race 4: No.6 Obsidian Dream
The Joe Pride-trained galloper is in top-shelf form this time in and with conditions to suit, looks the one to beat in this event.
Last start, the Vadamos filly continued to improve and broke through for her first win when she took out a set weights Maiden Plate, here over 1400m.
On a Heavy 8 that day, she drew the outside gate (7) where Sam Clipperton took her to the front and in the run home, fought off the challenges, going on to win by a length on the line.
From gate six today, she maps to cross and settle on the speed with Clipperton steering the ship again.
Now a winner at the track and at her peak today, the three-year-old looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 7: No.8 Magnolia Jewel
The Tracey Bartley-trained galloper has found her mojo this preparation and looks a strong chance of back-to-back success at odds in this event.
Last start, the Outreach mare reveled in the conditions when she took out a BM58 over 1106m at Port Macquarie.
Shannen Llewellyn settled her second on the leader’s heels to the turn and sticking to the inside, joined and headed the front runner soon after, then went on to score by half a length in the end, eased near the post.
The mare steps-up to BM64 company today and after the claim, carries 4.5kgs less for this assignment.
From gate nine, she maps to cross and settle just behind the speed with Llewellyn retaining the ride.
The forecast soft track looks ideal for the five-year-old today and at her peak, she looks well worth an each-way ticket in this event.
Race 8: No.5 Lucky Star
The Claire Lever-trained galloper is in career-best form this campaign and looks set to figure in the finish of this event.
Last start, the American Pharoah gelding was shooting for the hat-trick when he stepped-up in grade and finished fifth in a BM66 over 2000m at Mudgee.
Settling mid-field early, Winona Costin looked for an inside run on the turn, then soon after, the gelding was struck by the whip of another rider and lost momentum briefly before holding his ground to finish three lengths from the winner.
From barrier eight today, he maps to cross and settle just off the pace with Costin in the saddle again.
Dropping back to the 1800m today, the five-year-old is already a winner at the journey and having won on a wet track as well, looks in the mix to be there at the finish of this contest.
