Race 5: No.10 Inception
The Nathan Doyle-trained galloper has run himself into form and now looks ready to give this event a real shake today.
Last start, the Russian Revolution gelding was third-up when he beat all but one home in a BM64 Hcp over 1600m at Gosford.
From gate one, he settled second in the run to the turn before taking over soon after and boxed on strongly but was grabbed by one better on the day, leaving him with the silver medal for his efforts.
Nicely drawn in gate three today, he maps to settle near the speed again and Ash Morgan sticks with him for this assignment.
At his peak after three runs back and already a track & distance winner, he looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 6: No.5 Escargoes
Brad Widdup saddles-up Escargoes here who is second-up and looks set for back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the Capitalist gelding resumed after 18 weeks off the scene and made an immediate impression when he clobbered his opposition to win his first race when he took out a Maiden Hcp over 1100m on this track.
Punters were confident of a solid first-up effort, sending him out a firm $2.35 favourite and he didn’t disappoint.
After settling mid-field one off the fence, Tommy Berry made his move nearing the turn, then in the run home, he let the three-year-old go and at the 150m mark, took control, going on to score by more than two lengths on the line.
Stepping-up to BM64 company here, he draws gate five and maps to settle near mid-field with Berry in the saddle again.
Fitter for that first-up win, he should prove hard to beat in this contest.
Race 8: No.7 Whoa Nellie
The Brad Widdup-trained galloper is in great touch this preparation and fourth-up here, looks set to bounce back for another win in this event.
Last start, the Deep Field filly was shooting for the hat-trick when she stepped-up sharply in grade and finished mid-field in a BM72 Midway Hcp over the longer 1500m trip at Randwick.
From barrier eight, Tyler Schiller settled her mid-field one off the fence, then in the run home, ran on gamely and after copping interference near the line, finished sixth over the line.
Back to provincial racing today, she draws gate ten and maps to settle near mid-field with Schiller calling the shots again.
A winner here two starts back, she faces the starter at her peak and should be running on at the finish in this contest.
