Geelong Racing Tips for October 2- Grinzinger Sun to push the hot favourite, Visual, in Race 5

Cowarrie can break through in the opener. The Danny O’Brien-trained galloper is yet to win in five starts but has placed at his last two and narrowly went down as the runner-up horse behind Snore at Seymour last time over the 2246m. He was a tad unlucky in that as he was held up on a couple of occasions before producing the fastest last 200m. The son of Shamus Award looks ready and the extra 200+ metres looks like it will suit. 

This looks to be a suitable assignment for Perfect Night. The Hayes-trained filly was 4th on debut at Bendigo over the 1100m in what has turned out to be a strong form reference with the winner going on to score again before placing 3rd in Group 3 company at Moonee Valley, while the runner-up has since claimed her Maiden. At her most recent start, Perfect Night tackled a harder maiden than this at Sandown and was back on a slow tempo, producing the fastest 400m-200m splite before the lack of early speed counted against. She went 1.6 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figures of any runner and more than four lengths above the class average for this. A firmer in the early betting, she should be nearing her peak at her third run, while she draws to enjoy the run of the race from barrier 3. 

Happy to take on the hot favourite, Visual, in this race and be with Grinzinger Sun. The four-year-old was solid when resuming at Bendigo over the 1000m with a 5th behind Trembles. She was held up from the turn until the 200m before closing off well in what was a leaders dominated race. Second up at her last preparation, the daughter of The Autumn Sun improved significantly on benchmark figures to win in impressive fashion at the track and trip before being thereabouts in a series of city races. She has been kept safe in the betting and draws perfectly in barrier 5. 

Active Duty shapes as an each-way player in Race 6. The consistent galloper scored over the 1715m two starts ago at Geelong then tackled the 1950m at Morphetville early last month, leading and narrowly going down in a photo behind Burning Bright. Those two put a gap on the rest. The winner out of that has since gone on to win again, while the 3rd placegetter has also scored. The question mark is the sharp drop back in distance but he has produced some respectable performances in the past over the 1400m range and he will be saving plenty of ground from the inside barrier.
