Here are our blackbookers and horses to follow from the action.
Race 3 - BenchMark 78 (1400m)- Swiftie Harriet 👀 (4th)
There was plenty happening in the finish to Race 3 with very little separating the top four. Swiftie Harriet landed just outside the placings and was unlucky not to win. The South Australian visitor settled just worse than midfield and overraced but looked to have a stack to offer in the straight before being badly held up from the 500m until just inside the 100m, flashing late to produce the fastest last 200m of the race. She has now had four starts this preparation but her best form previously came deeper into her last campaign when claiming a BenchMark 78 at Ballarat. Look out for her at her next start.
Race 4 - 3YO (1400m)- Flying Done 🥈 (2nd)
Nice performance by Flying Done in Race 4 to fill the exacta behind the emerging star, Concord Connie. The Warrnambool galloper was resuming from a spell and led them up over the 1400m, giving the $1.35 favourite something to chase. He only went down in the final 200m and stuck on strongly at the business end to keep the others comfortably at bay. The son of Kermadec showed promise last preparation when stringing together three consecutive wins, including an all-the-way victory over the 1600m at Flemington in January. Expect to see him on the winners list soon.
Race 6 - BenchMark 100 (1600m)- Zahrann 👀 (5th)
He might have gone down as a well-backed $3.70 favourite but the run of Zahrann was full of merit in Race 6. The Ciaron Maher import was making his local debut and settled back in the field of 11, but the race was not run to suit with the tempo at an absolute crawl through the early and middle stages. The former European arrived in Australia with strong staying credentials after winning the Listed King George V Cup (2414m) at Leopardstown and finishing runner-up in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes (2414m) at Royal Ascot. The lightly raced four-year-old closed off with the fastest last 200m to finish fifth behind Wonder Boy, beaten just two lengths, and we can expect big things from him as he steps up in distance.
