Race 2: No.4 Pier
The visiting Kiwi galloper has impressed since arriving and third-up here looks a genuine winning chance in this event.
Last start, the Proisir gelding caught the eye with his first look at the Doomben track where he was a fast finishing third in the Group 3 BRC Sprint over 1350m.
Stepping onto Australian soil for the first time, he drew the carpark in gate 16 with Ethan Brown deciding to cross and follow them all to the turn, before railing like a greyhound and in the run home, chased the Stradbroke Hcp favourite (War Machine) all the way to the line, finishing just 2.5 lengths behind the classy galloper.
Third-up and fitter here, the NZ Guineas winner will appreciate the step-up to the mile trip here and from gate three, does no early work and will probably settle back again with Brown remaining at the helm for this assignment.
Already a winner when third-up, the multiple Group winning five-year-old should be at his peak here and looks in the mix to claim victory in this contest.
Race 5: No.11 I Am Artie
The Paul Jenkins-trained galloper seems to have everything going his way here and looks a sneaky chance at odds in this event.
Last start, the Artie Schiller gelding looked all at sea when finishing near last in a BM85 over 1350m at Doomben.
From gate 11 (of 16), he was caught wide from the outset, and had nothing left to offer in the run home, beaten 6.5 lengths across the line.
Far better drawn here, he leaves the machine from gate three and maps to settle just behind the speed with Kyle Wilson-Taylor returning for the ride.
Placed in Listed company previously (Tails Stakes), he is unbeaten when third-up with six of his seven career wins coming over the 1200m trip and in blinkers for the first time, he looks all set to bounce back from that last start hiccup and looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 9: No.3 Militarize
Chris Waller saddles-up Militarize here who has shown a ton of improvement lately and now looks ready to produce his best in this event.
Last start, the Dundeel gelding caught the eye when a fast finishing fourth in the Group 1 Doomben Cup over the 2000m journey.
He settled last in the 12-strong field before Tommy Berry tracked wide on the turn where still last at the 300m mark, the four-year-old found plenty and was storming home over the final 100m, just missing a podium finish on the line.
Stepping-up to the 2200m here looks ideal for him now where he draws ideally in gate one and will do no early work as he maps to settle near mid-field with cover.
James McDonald returns to saddle after three previous rides that all ended in podium finishes.
The three-time Group 1 winning galloper seems to have peaked now and with conditions to suit here, looks a genuine contender for the Group 2 trophy in this contest.
