Steve Bennett picks out his blackbookers and horses to follow from Saturday racing at Rosehill on 31 January.

Race 2: BM72 Midway Hcp (1350m) – Iceman

The Clarry Connors-trained gelding resumed on Saturday after 19 weeks off the scene and turned plenty of heads when finishing second in this event with Nash Rawiller aboard.

Settling last of the 12 runners, he could still see them all on straightening and by threading his way through the field, he found the right gaps and beat all but the winner to the line.

The 1350m was a little short for him as well so keep your eyes out form him running over the mile trip soon.

Race 7: BM88 (1200m) – Sixties

The Chris Waller-trained galloper resumed on Saturday off an 18-week spell and on fresh legs really caught the eye with a last-to-first effort in this event.

Trailing the speed by eight lengths on the turn, Zac Lloyd wound him up and in the run home, turned it on for all to see as he reeled in the race favourite (Roselyn’s Choice) and ran away to score by almost two lengths on the line.

Now a winner of three races from his seven starts to date, the future is looking bright for the three-year-old son of Flying Artie and is would be wise to stick with him for a few more yet.

Race 10: BM72 (1200m) – Eagle Express

Another from the strong Waller stable, the Alabama Express mare resumed off a 19-week break on Saturday and made a loud statement when she clobbered her rivals in this contest.

Sealing his fifth win on the 10-race program, James McDonald settled her nicely, two pairs back and as they turned she fanned wide looking for galloping room and found it before storming home to win comfortably in the end.

It was an impressive return to the track and now fitter for that run, she looks to press on with more success.
