Ballarat racing takes place on Tuesday, August 18, with a competitive provincial meeting set down for Ballarat.

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also feature in our daily selections.

Race 2 No.11- Kung Fu Panda


Kung Fu Panda is a major player in Race 2 of the day at Ballarat. The Team Hayes galloper has had the two career starts for a 5th on the Turf at Ballarat earlier this year before returning at Pakenham on the Synthetic track on August 3 over the 1100m and placing 4th behind Autumn Lover. The daughter of I Am Immortal settled back that day and worked home well for 4th. He will strip fitter for this and the slight rise to the 1200m should suit, while he has scope to work across and take up a prominent spot from barrier 12 with Jye McNeil to ride. 

Race 4 No.3- Life Sentence


Life Sentence can go close in Race 4. The six-year-old has finished top two in three of his past four starts with all of those coming on the Synthetic at Ballarat. He overcame a bit of a chequered start when hampered early last time to sit on the speed but was outkicked late by Zork, going down half a length. I suspect that form should hold up with the son of Star Witness going 2.6 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is more than six lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner in this race, while he produced similar figures at his run prior to that. The 3kg claimer, Zac Moore, rides and has plenty of options from barrier 7.
