Who were the eyecatchers, who should you add to your black book for upcoming races and meetings and who do we recommended following in the weeks and months ahead?
Race 1: Two-Year-Old Hcp (1200m) – Satomi
The Stephen Lee-trained filly was most impressive winning this race when on debut on Saturday.
In the small five-horse field she was slowly away but managed to work her way into the box-seat by mid-race.
Then in the run home, she was couldn’t get clear and had to cross three sets of heels before re-gaining momentum and then finished over the top of them to win by two lengths on the line.
An outstanding start to a racing career and this filly looks well worth watching for now.
Race 2: BM70 Hcp (1000m) – Larado
The Matt Hoysted-trained galloper was second-up on Saturday and was on song again as he easily accounted for his rivals in this event.
Daniel Moor had him parked on the leader’s heels before leaving the fence on straightening then eventually gaining the upper hand and going on to win.
The lightly-raced four-year-old now has three wins and a runner-up result from his four career starts to date and he looks set to go on with it from here so it might pay to find a spot for him in the blackbook.
Race 10: BM78 (1200m) – Press Link
The Robert Heathcote-trained gelding resumed after more than a year off the scene and surprised many with his last-to-first effort in this contest.
Slowly away, he settled back at the tail of the field before tracking wide on the turn and on straightening, could still see them all but finished like a train and arrived in time to claim the gold medal for the race.
He appears to have returned in top-class form and already a winner when second-up, looks set for a bright campaign this time.
