Pakenham Racing Tips for June 22 – Mafee to go one better on the one-wee backup
- Fox Peril is a value each-way choice in Race 2, stepping up in distance.
- Savamoon tipped to improve in Race 4 with favourable track conditions.
- Mafee highly fancied in Race 5 due to strong synthetic track record.
Pakenham racing takes place on Monday, June 22, with a program set down for Pakenham.
Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also feature in our daily selections.
Race 2. No.3- Fox Peril
Race 2 is wide-open and Fox Peril might be worth something at the each-way quote, stepping up to the 1400m for the first time. The three-year-old is yet to place in three career starts but has not been beaten far in any of those and stuck on well for 4th at Sale two starts ago before making up some ground last time on the Pakenham Synthetic a week ago when 6th over the 1200m behind Paramount Plus. The Nikki Burke-trained galloper went five lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is the second best last start figure of any runner and does appear to handle the surface, while the step up in trip should suit. From barrier 5, he won’t be far away in the run and looks to be value at the double figure odds.
Race 4 No.8- Savamoon
Savamoon can be an improver in Race 4. The Moody/Coleman galloper comes off a bit of a forget run when bombing out of it at Mornington at his most recent start. He was posted wide no cover and didnt appear to handle to Heavy track. Form prior to that was encouraging when running on for 4th at Pakenham on the Turf and at his last campaign he raced well at a similar stage on Synthetic tracks with a win and a placing from three starts. The son of Savabeel is likely to settle on the speed and is likely to be in it for a long way after drawing ideally in barrier 5.
Race 6 No.5- Mafee
Keen on Mafee in Race 5. The five-year-old tends to save his best for Synthetic tracks with two wins and a runner-up from four starts. He is on the one week backup after filling the exacta behind Lake Forest at last week’s Monday meeting here. The Reece Goodwin-trained galloper led them up at a solid clip and was a bit of a sitting duck late in the piece when run down by the winner but he did hold the others at bay. He was a winner at his second go on the surface last year and will push across from the draw and give them something to chase.
