Adam Cusworth picks out his blackbookers and horses to follow from Tuesday racing at Flemington on July 5.
Who were the eyecatchers, who should you add to your black book for upcoming races and meetings and who do we recommend following in the weeks and months ahead?
Race 2 Berkshire Breeze
Berkshire Breeze was the most impressive winner of the day at Flemington. The promising imported galloper from the Ciaron Maher stable stepped out in the Banjo Patterson Series Final as a $1.30 favourite and justified the short quote by romping to a five-length win.
He settled handy and took over as they cornered to clear out, going a very healthy 14.2 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which were just behind Munhamek’s as the best on the day. He will be aimed at some of the early spring features and will be hard to beat in either The Archer (2500m) and The Bart Cummings (2500m) with a view to scoring a start in the Melbourne Cup (3200m).
Race 5 In Her Stride
In Her Stride was a bit of a luckless runner in the Leilani Series Final. The five-year-old was stepping out off a two-month break and settled in the back half of the field.
She looked to have a bit to offer in the straight but was held up on a number of occasions before eventually running 4th behind Cindy Falls, beaten one length.
A winner of two races at the start of her last preparation, she is one that can bounce back at her next start.
Race 9 Prinzerro
The final race of the day went the way of Right To Party, who rattled home late to defeat Prinzerro.
There has to be a win somewhere for the runner-up horse, who has had three starts this preparation, going down to Right To Party on two occasions as well as The Black Cloud two starts ago.
The Philip Stokes-trained galloper is eligible for easier races and looked the winner at Flemington before going down late.
