Race 3: No.4 Ex Wife
The Glen Milligan-trained galloper is second-up today and ticks enough boxes to suggest he will take beating in this event.
Last start, the Exosphere gelding resumed after a lengthy 31 weeks off the scene and did well to finish third in a Class 3 Hcp over 1010m at Coffs Harbour.
Grady Spokes had him settled mid-field to the turn where he scouted wide and in the run home. Came down the centre of the track, arriving in time to grab that minor prize.
Meeting similar company here, he draws wide and maps to cross and settle mid-field or better with Zac Wadick as the new pilot.
Unbeaten in two starts at the track and distance and fitter for that first-up run, he looks in the mix for a shot at the major prize in this contest.
Race 5: No.1 Prince De Vega
The Jason Deamer-trained galloper is second-up here and looks well placed to improve even further by taking out this event.
Last start, the Lope de Vega gelding resumed after 18 weeks in the paddock and caught the eye when finishing third in a Class 1 Hcp over 1212m at Coffs Harbour.
Having his first start for the Deamer stable, Ashley Morgan settled him near mid-field to the turn, then after running out of room on the inside, Morgan hooked him wide, then in the run home, he hit the line strongly to beat all but the first two past the post.
Facing a slightly easier BM58 assignment today, he draws gate seven and maps to settle in the first half-dozen with Morgan steering the ship once more.
Fitter for two trials and that first-up effort and stepping-up to a more suitable 1400m today, the four-year-old looks hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 6: No.8 Gemtiki
Shaun Harvey saddles-up Gemtiki here who is in great touch of late and looks a genuine chance of going back-to-back in this event.
Last start, the Almanzor mare scored her second career win when she took out a BM58 over 1750m at Muswellbrook.
Aaron Bullock settled her mid-field to the turn before coming off heels, then in the run home, the mare found an extra gear and simply has too many guns for them, going on to score impressively by more than two lengths on the line.
Stepping-up to BM66 company here, she draws out in gate 10 (of 11) and maps to settle near mid-field with Bullock in the saddle for his third ride on the mare.
Racing in career-best form, the five-year-old looks the testing material again in this contest.
