Race 3: No.6 Gentlemen Legacy
The Tony Cruz-trained galloper has been knocking on the door at his past couple of starts and looks well placed here to go one better in this event.
Last start, the Showtime gelding ended up bridesmaid again when he beat all but one home in a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1800m with Alex Badel in the saddle.
Although drawn well in gate six, he was still trapped three-deep from the outset before tracking even wider on the turn where looking no chance of a win, still chased the winner home despite covering more ground than the early explorers, beaten just a length on the line, conceding the winner 3kgs in weight as well.
Drawn even better here, he jumps from gate four and maps to settle better than mid-field with cover this time and welcomes new pilot Zac Purton aboard for his first ride on the four-year-old.
Stepping-up to the 2000m for the first time looks ideal for him now and fourth-up tonight, he should be at his peak and hard to beat in this contest.
Race 9: No.3 Ka Ying Glory
The David Hayes-trained galloper is two starts into his racing career and has shown enough improvement to suggest he is a winning chance in this event.
Last start, the Turn Me Loose gelding improved in leaps and bounds from his unplaced debut effort when he beat all but one home in a Class 4 Hcp, here over 1400m.
With Zac Purton aboard, he jumped from gate 11 (of 14), eventually taking-up the front running and set a good pace before giving them something to chase in run home where he was eventually overcome by the race favourite (Do Your Part) and had to settle for the silver medal that day.
That was a mighty effort under the circumstances and it gets better here where he gets the gun-run from gate one and with Purton retaining the ride, may take a sit here with plenty of early speed drawn outside him.
Whichever way Purton goes, the three-year-old will still be even fitter after two runs now and comes off a winning trial, here two weeks back.
Up against similar company over the same trip, he looks right in the mix to take out this contest.
Race 11: No.6 Beauty Bolt
Tony Cruz saddles-up his imported galloper here for his first race-start on Hong Kong soil where the debutant looks a genuine chance of winning on fresh legs tonight.
The Irish-sired gelding made his racing debut at Dundalk (Ireland) and turned plenty of heads where he destroyed his rivals by three lengths in a 1400m event on a synthetic track with 60.5kgs to lump at his first start.
Since then, he has trialled three times in Hong Kong, the last two here at Sha Tin where he finished top-two in both events.
Cruz has fitted a tongue-tie on the three-year-old for this contest with Aussie rider Brenton Avdulla taking the ride.
From gate five, he looks well placed to settle pretty much where he likes and this could be a case of ‘watch the market’, but based on his results to date, a trouble-free run here could easily see him fighting out the finish in this contest.
