Seymour Racing Tips for July 19 – Jerome Hunter filly to justify the short quote in the last
- Durban Harbour drops in grade and profiles strongly in Race 7.
- Lonstar expected to improve second-up in Race 8 with a better run.
- Our Justify well-drawn for a strong late finish in Race 9.
Seymour racing takes place on Sunday, July 19, with an exciting country program set down for Seymour.
Here are our best bets from the meeting, which also feature in our daily selections.
Race 7 No.2- Durban Harbour
Durban Harbour is an each-way player in Race 7. The five-year-old improved throughout his last campaign to win three races and looks to have come back in promising order with solid runs in harder company that this in his two starts so far. He was a close up 6th when resuming before running on for 4th last time with both of those coming in BenchMark 70 company on the Caulfield Heath. The John Symons & Sheila Laxon-trained galloper drops in grade and went from a 4th when second up at his last prep to a win when prepared in Queensland. Step up to the 2040m looks like it will suit and with he has scope to push up from the wide barrier to stay within striking distance.
Race 8 No.10- Lonstar
Rolling the dice on Lonstar in Race 8. The Clayton Douglas-trained galloper is the slight query stepping up to 1200m for the first time and perhaps didn't appreciate the synthetic surface when resuming at Pakenham, where he finished fifth behind Prince Of Brooky. He worked hard to lead at a strong tempo before tiring late, yet still produced benchmark figures right on standard—around three lengths faster than the next-best ratings of any runner in this field. He has drawn wide again, but I'd be happy to see him ridden with a bit more cover this time. With the benefit of that first-up run, he looks capable of taking a significant step forward second-up.
Race 9 No.10- Our Justify
Going with Our Justify in the final race of the day. The promising filly has had the two runs this time in and has caught the eye in both of those, drawing wide and settling back before flashing home late. At her most recent start she was restrained to settle back then they crawled early and she came home in 24.08 seconds over the last 400m to land within half a length of Afterberna on the Caulfield Heath over the 1200m. She draws much better for this assignment and can position midfield in a race where the pace up front looks suitable for her to launch at them late. Slight step to the 1300m suits and Craig Newitt sticks on board. The Tasmanian strikes at 27% for the stable, delivering an 84% profit on investment.
