Race 2: No.11 Mogul Monarch
The Kim Waugh-trained Mogul Monarch is in red-hot form this time in and looks set to make his city debut a winning one in this event.
Last start, the Capitalist gelding rang up his second career-win (from seven starts) when he put paid to a BM64 field over 1100m at Hawkesbury.
Jay Ford was aboard for his fourth ride on the gelding where from gate seven he was caught three-deep with out cover to the turn but it made little difference as he took over inside the final 300m and went on to win by more than a length over the line.
He steps-up to BM72 company here but drops 3.5kgs from that last-start win as Ford sticks with him for this assignment.
He jumps from gate six and maps to be right behind the speed on settling.
The stable have scratched him from the Listed Brian Crowley Stakes (race 4) to run in this event.
Four of his five starts this campaign have ended with a podium finish and a trouble-free run here can see him finish there again.
Race 7: No.2 Swiftfalcon
Team Hawkes saddle-up Swiftfalcon here who is fourth-up and in top-shelf form and only has to overcome a wide gate to be a genuine winning chance in this event.
Last start, the Exceedance gelding was shooting for the hat-trick but had to settle for second prize behind El Castello in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes over 1800m at Rosehill.
Jay Ford had the reins where he settled the gelding back in field from a wide gate (9 of 12) and despite a solid effort in the run home, gave them too much start and was unable to make up the ground in time, having to settle for the silver medal.
Drawing the outside gate (11) here, Ford will no doubt ease him back again and stepping up to the 2000m, giving him a better opportunity in the run home.
Two starts here both ended in top-two finishes and with a clear run to the line, he can claim victory in this contest.
Race 8: No.5 Olentia
The Chris Waller-trained Olentia is second-up here and ticks all the boxes that suggest a career-eighth win is on the cards in this event.
Last start, the Zoustar mare resumed after six-months off the scene and showing no signs of fatigue, easily accounted for her Group 3 rivals in The Nivison over 1200m at Rosehill.
With Tommy Berry aboard, she fanned the widest of the nine runners on the turn and put the foot down to find the front inside the last 150m and went on to win by more than a length over the line.
She maps to settle near mid-field here from gate seven with Tommy Berry shooting for his third win on the five-year-old.
Already a two-time winner when second-up and a winner at the track and distance, a clear run to the line can see her bring up back-to-back victories in this contest.
Race 9: No.12 Territory Express
The Kembla Grange-based Territory Express is second-up here if he can overcome the wide draw, looks a winning chance at odds in this event.
Last start, the Territories gelding resumed off a 19-week spell and wasn’t disgraced when finishing sixth (of 17) in the Alan Brown Stakes over 1400m at Rosehill.
Ash Morgan was aboard that day and after jumping from the outside gate (17), did well to have the five-year-old finish just over two lengths from the winner that day.
He has to deal with a similar situation here as he draws gate 13 (of 16) where he maps to settle near the rear of the field but is stepping-up in distance with Zac Lloyd back in the saddle (having ridden him to victory twice previously).
He has finished runner-up twice from three previous second-up efforts and is a winner at the Randwick track.
With a little luck in running and clean air in the run home, he can give this contest a real shake.
