Race 3: No.3 Calzino
Scott Singleton saddles-up Calzino here who has found his mojo after three starts back and looks set to go on with it in this event.
Last start, the Belardo gelding showed enough improvement off his first two starts back to take out a Class 1/Maiden Plate, here over 2000m.
He settled mid-field early before working forward nearing the turn, then tracking wide into the straight, found the front and despite wanting to hang out, went on to score by half a length on the line.
Facing a slightly easier task here against BM58 company, he draws the outside gate and maps to cross and settle near mid-field with Mikayla Weir retaining the ride.
Now a track and distance winner and at his peak today, a clear run to the line should see him hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 5: No.4 Ordinary Angel
The Todd Howlett-trained galloper is high-flying this preparation and looks a strong chance of going back-to-back in this event.
Last start, the Harry Angel gelding came off a hat-trick of runner-up finishes when he broke through to score his first win by taking out a Maiden Plate over 1400m at Gunnedah.
Arron Bullock settled him second at the leader’s girth to the turn before drawing level and soon after taking over, then going on to score a good win.
Stepping-up to BM58 opposition here, he draws ideally in gate two and maps to settle on the speed with Mikayla Weir returning for her second ride on the four-year-old.
Currently at the top of his game, he looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 6: No.2 He’s My Warrior
The Craig Martin-trained galloper is in good touch this time in and ticks enough boxes here to suggest he will play a major role in the outcome of this event.
Last start, the Hallowed Crown gelding finished a close-up fourth in a BM66 Hcp, here over 1200m.
Angel Brennan settled him mid-field to the turn before sticking to the fence, scored a rails run and finished well to just miss a podium finish in the end.
Facing similar company today, he gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to be box-seating on settling with Brennan in the saddle again.
All four career wins have come on dry tracks and already a track and distance winner here, a clear run to the line at the right time can see him there at the finish in this contest.
