Dubbo Racing Tips for October 2 – Star to nimble in Race 3, $10 shot is value in Race 6

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which co-incides with the meeting at Moruya on Fiday.

Nimble Star should be hard to beat in the Benchmark 82 over 1400m. The Brett Robb-trained gelding has had all four starts in Sydney this campaign and came close two starts ago when runner-up in a TAB Highway over 1200m behind Weyburn, having little luck on that occasion. He again had excuses when fifth at Rosehill last time, racing wide without cover before finishing behind Weyburn. The five-year-old now returns to his home track looking to break a winning drought of more than a year and boasts an excellent record at Dubbo with two wins from four starts. Barrier 14 is the obvious challenge, but Shannon Llewellyn takes the ride and he should appreciate the drop back to country grade.

Symphonite is an interesting runner in Race 6 as she has her first start for new trainer Melissa Harrison. The mare brings respectable Victorian form north, having finished runner-up in three of her past five starts. She was well beaten by Huey at Casterton last time but caught the eye at Mount Gambier prior to that, and this Class 1 looks well within her scope. She tackles 1000m for the first time but some of her better performances have come over the shorter trips, while barrier four and the 1.5kg claim give her every opportunity to settle handy and prove hard to beat.
