Muswellbrook racing takes place on Tuesday, September 8 with a 7-race program set down for the Muswellbrook racetrack.

We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for  Muswellbrook racetrack.

Race 4: No.5  Gemtiki

The Shaun Harvey-trained galloper is in good touch this campaign and ticks enough boxes here to suggest she can grab another win in this event.

Last start, the Almanzor mare claimed her fifth podium finish when she beat all but one home in a Class 1 at set weights over 1600m at Taree.

Drawn out that day, he settled back in the field before tracking wide on the turn, then as the widest runner, he gave them far too much start but still motored home to grab second prize, beaten just over a length on the line.

Facing a slightly easier task here in BM58 company, he steps-up in distance and from gate, maps to do no early work as he settles near mid-field with Aaron Bullock returning for his second ride on the five-year-old, having steered her to that maiden win four starts back.

In good form and already a track and distance winner here, the mare should prove hard to hold out in this contest.

Race 5: No.2  Amajicstar

John Bannister saddles-up Amajicstar here who more than impressed on debut and looks set for back-to-back success in this event.

Last start, the Star Turn filly made her racing debut and did it in style when she clobbered her rivals in the set weights Maiden Plate over 900m at Newcastle.

Liberty Smyth had her leading from the outset before straightening for the run home where the filly found another gear and raced away to score untroubled, putting 2.5 lengths on them over the line.

After just one start, speedmaps can’t assess her place at barrier rise but from gate eight, she will most likely push forward and be on or near the speed when settling with Smyth retaining the ride for this assignment.

Facing Class 1 company here, she comes off a big debut win and will strip fitter for that so with a trouble-free run today, the three-year-old looks a major player in this contest.

Race 7: No.10  Kakoda

The Scott Singleton-trained galloper returns to country racing here and looks much better placed for victory in this event.

Last start, the Graff mare came off a hat-trick of podium finishes when she drew wide and finished unplaced in a Class 2 Highway Hcp over 1100m at Randwick.

From the outside gate (15), Mikayla Weir settled her back in the field and in the run home managed to pass a few but still finished 5.5 lengths from the winner. A post-vet exam showed signs of thumps with the mare.

She has gate 10 (of 13) today and maps to settle near mid-fields with Izzy Neale back to ride after steering the mare to victory four starts back at Tamworth.

This is a big drop in class for her and after five starts back, she should still be at her peak.

Unbeaten in two starts over the 1000m trip to date, the mare can bounce back here and give this contest a real shake today.
