Race 5: No.10 Hard As Brok
The David Vandyke-trained galloper has improved at each start this preparation and looks set to go one better in this event.
Last start, the All Too Hard gelding was third-up when he beat all but one home in a Class 2 Hcp over 1650m at Beaudesert.
Box-seating soon after the start, he tracked the leader to the turn then came off heels and joined the front-runner where they went stride-for-stride all the way home with the Vandyke gelding out-bobbed, beaten a short head on the line.
At his peak today, he drops back to Class 1 company and drawn well in gate three, maps to settle better than mid-field with Corey Sutherland as the new pilot.
Already a track and trip winner and a winner when fourth-up last campaign, the three-year-old ticks enough boxes here to be considered a winning chance in this contest.
Race 6: No.6 Moshulu Spirit
Jack Bruce saddles-up Moshulu Spirit here who is unbeaten this time in and looks well placed to bring-up the hat-trick in this event.
Last start, the Spirit of Boom gelding came off his maiden win and stepped-up to BM64 competition where he proved too good for them over the 1200m trip at Doomben.
Ben Thompson settled him mid-field one off the fence to the turn, then came off heels and tracked wide before hitting top gear where he finished best to claim the winner’s cheque on the line.
Well drawn here in gate four, he maps to settle just behind the speed with Thompson retaining the ride for this assignment.
Third-up and in winning form, he looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 7: No.2 Petite Palace
The Michael Morrison-trained galloper has been thereabouts in recent racing and down sharply in grade today, looks a strong chance of grabbing her fifth career win in this event.
Last start, the Under the Louvre mare found the podium yet again when she beat all but one to the line in a strong BM78, here over 1200m.
Mark Du Plessis had her box-seating early to the turn, before crossing off heels and soon after took control, only to be run down by a smart one in Balance The Books (who won a BM80 by four lengths last Saturday).
That is strong form coming into this race as she drops back to BM65 company here and after the claim by new rider Olivia Kendal, carries just 58kgs today.
Ideally drawn in gate two, speed maps have her box-seating on settling and facing a much easier task today, the four-year-old looks the one to beat in this contest.
