Canterbury racing takes place on Wednesday, July 8 with a 7-race program set down for the Canterbury racetrack.

We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for  Canterbury racetrack.

Race 5: No.10  Wootton Way

The Chris Waller-trained galloper has done everything but win this time in and is overdue for a change of luck.

Last start, the Wootton Bassett filly found the podium for the fourth time in five starts this preparation when she finished third in a BM72 over 1300m at Warwick Farm.

Tommy Berry settled her mid-field before running home strongly, arriving in time to claim the minor prize in the race.

Drawn wide today in gate 13, she maps to cross and settle in the back half of the field with Reece Jones as the new pilot.

Dropping back to BM64 competition today, the step-up to 1550m looks a good move after five runs back and with a trouble-free run here, she can figure and is well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.

Race 6: No.6  Trapalanda

Team Archibald saddle-up Trapalanda here who is second-up and looks set to go one better in this event.

Last start, the British-sired gelding resumed off a 17-week spell and impressed when he beat all but one home in a BM72 over 1600m at Warwick Farm.

Settling third, one off the fence, he tracked the leaders to the turn before coming off heels and gave his all in the run home, beaten half a length on the line.

Stepping-up from the mile to the 1900m journey today, he will strip fitter and from barrier eight, maps to settle mid-field or better with Braith Nock retaining the ride.

Placed twice when second-up previously, this trip should be more suitable for the five-year-old who should prove hard to hold out in this contest.

Race 7: No.8  Sociable

The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper is in great touch after three starts back and now looks ready to win.

Last start, the Yes Yes Yes gelding made it a hat-trick of minor placings when he finished a close-up third in a BM72 over 1300m at Warwick Farm.

Settling back in the field, Adam Hyeronimus worked him into the race nearing the turn, then sticking to the inside, got the split and darted through to challenge in the run home but was out-bobbed by two others on the line, beaten half a length in the end.

From gate seven today, speed maps have him settling near mid-field with Keagan Latham back for his second ride on the four-year-old.

Fourth-up and at his peak, he should prove hard to beat in this contest.
