Race 7: No.6 Ellofadude
The Ben Blay-trained galloper is two starts into this preparation and looks ready to figure in the finish of this event.
Last start, the Written By gelding finished fourth again, this time in a BM58 over 1000m at Dubbo with Kody Nestor in the saddle.
Jumping from gate nine (of 12), he was trapped wide from the outset to the turn, before tracking even wider and covering more ground than the early explorers, did a great job to finish just behind the placegetters, beaten 2.5 lengths on the line.
The step-up to the 1250m trip looks ideal here and from gate four he maps to settle near mid-field with Aaron Bullock taking the reins today.
Fitter for those two runs back and from the better draw today, he looks a serious contender for the big prize in this contest.
Race 8: No.4 Sonofdec
Jay Hopkins saddles-up Sonofdec here who is third-up and ticks enough boxes to be considered a winning chance at odds in this event.
Last start, the Kermadec gelding was second-up when he finished last in a BM68 over 1400m at Kembla Grange.
In the small field of six, Matt Kirk settled him mid-field with the pace on up front before tracing wide on the turn and despite not being a winning chance, still ran home well to finish less than four lengths from the winner.
Drawn the outside gate (12) today, he maps to settle back in the field with Shannen Llewellyn back for her third ride on the gelding.
The step-up to the 1600m trip will suit him much better today and already a two-time winner when third-up, he looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 9: No.6 Hellcibell
The Team Cavanough-trained galloper is two starts back from a 14-week spell and looks well placed here for a win in this event.
Last start, the Hellbent mare was second-up and wasn’t disgraced when finishing fifth in a BM78 over 1100m at Hawkesbury.
From gate nine (of 13), Allysha Collett settled the $101 chance three pairs back, one off the fence, to the turn where they all fanned wide leaving the mare to cross heels to finish up nearer the outside fence before holding her own and hitting the line well, beaten less than three lengths in the end.
Drawn better here in gate four, she maps to settle in the first half-dozen with Ben Looker at the new pilot.
The six-year-old boasts a strong third-up record, winning two of her three appearances after two runs back and with a trouble-free run here, looks a major player in this contest.
