Race 4: No.5 Nepravda
The Robert Heathcote-trained galloper has been close-up after three runs back and now looks ready to put her best foot forward and give this event a real shake.
Last start, the Russian Revolution mare put in her best effort this time in when she beat all but one home in a Class 3 Hcp over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast.
Michael Rodd settled her just behind the speed to the turn before coming off the leader’s heels then in the run home, chased hard and despite taking ground off the leader, had to settle for second prize, beaten less than a length on the line.
The four-year-old has found the podium five times from seven starts on wet tracks so conditions here suit where she gets the gun-run from gate one and maps to be up on the speed early.
At her peak here and with Rodd retaining the ride, she looks a serious player in this contest.
Race 5: No.2 American Conquest
The Toowoomba-based galloper is in good touch this preparation and looks a solid chance here for back-to-back success.
Last start, the Love Conquers All gelding found his mojo this campaign and destroyed his rivals in a BM58 Hcp over 1050m on his home track.
On a Soft 7 that day, Jett Newman settled him mid-field early before pushing forward on the fence and turning for home, found the front then exploded away to put six lengths on them over the line.
Seeing Doomben for the first time here, he draws gate seven and maps to settle better than mid-field with Mark Du Plessis as the new pilot.
At his peak and coming off a big win, a trouble-free run here can see him there at the finish in this contest.
Race 7: No.7 Saint Aldwyn
Kelly Schweida saddles-up Saint Aldwyn here who is high-flying of late and has to overcome a wide gate here to be a real force in this event.
Last start, the well-bred Zoustar gelding made it five-straight podium finishes when he beat all but one home in a BM70 Hcp, here over 1350m.
Corey Sutherland had him box-seating to the turn, then in the run home, was held-up to the 200m mark before finally seeing daylight when the race was all but over before finishing strongly to secure second prize.
Drawn wide here in gate 13, he maps to push forward and settle better than mid-field, avoiding any chance of being hemmed-in on the fence this time.
Kyle Wilson-Taylor rode him to victory two starts back at Ipswich and has the reins again for this assignment and with a little more luck in running, he should prove hard to beat in this contest.
