Race 5: No.10 Tasman Bay
The Eagle Farm-based galloper is second-up here and after a faultless effort on fresh legs, looks set to win again in this event.
Last start, the Zousain mare resumed after almost a year on the sidelines when she destroyed her rivals in a Maiden Plate over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast.
From barrier rise, she led from the outset and on straightening, Anthony Allen gave her a couple of slaps with the whip and from there, simply ran away with it, crossing the line 3.5 lengths clear in the end.
Stepping-up to Class 1 rivals today, she draws gate ten and maps to push forward where she looks to settle in the first half-dozen with Allen in the saddle again.
Fitter for that big first-up win, the stable fit the lugging bit for her first race at Doomben and with a trouble-free run here, she can make it two-straight in this contest.
Race 6: No.2 Gorbachev
Michael Freedman saddles-up Gorbachev here who has bounced back to his best form and ticks all the boxes that suggest he can claim another scalp in this event.
Last start, the Russian Revolution gelding came off a disappointing first-up effort when he turned it all around by taking out a Class 5 Hcp over 1400m at Eagle Farm.
From gate seven (of 8), Dylan Turner took him straight to the lead and set a moderate pace to the turn, then in the run home, fended off all the challenges to hang on for a gutsy win on the line.
Drawn out in gate 10 here, he maps to push forward and settle in the first couple with Jace McMurray aboard for his second ride on the five-year-old.
Already a winner when third-up and a two-time winner at the track, he looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 7: No.5 Duke Of Camden
The Tony Gollan-trained galloper only has to overcome a wide draw here to be considered a big chance for victory in this event.
Last start, the Trapeze Artist gelding resumed after 18 weeks off the scene and impressed when he beat all but one home in a BM68 Hcp over 1100m at Ipswich.
From gate one, Cejay Graham had him box-seating to the turn before coming off heels, then in the run home chased the leaders all the way but couldn’t quite bridge the gap, beaten a neck on the line.
Drawn gate 12 today, he maps to push forward and settle in the first half-dozen with Daniel Moor as the new pilot for this assignment.
Already a winner when second-up and over the 1200m here, he still looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
