Cowra racing takes place on Sunday, January 18 with a 9-race program set down for Cowra racetrack.

We have the best bets picked from across the meeting with a Best Bet and other value selections for  Cowra racetrack.

Race 3: No.7  Smitchov

The Jarrod Austin-trained galloper has impressed with podium finishes at his first two race starts and looks well placed here to make it third time lucky in this event.

Last start, the Prague gelding came off a close-up third at Canberra on debut when he went one better and beat all but one home in a Maiden Plate over 1400m at Orange.

Louise Day settled him outside the leader before taking over in the run home, only to be grabbed on the line by a swooper, beaten a nose in the end.

From gate seven today, he maps to settle just behind the speed with Mathew Cahill as the new pilot for this assignment.

Fitter for those two runs, a clear passage home over the 1375m trip here can see him collecting the cash in this contest.

Race 4: No.11  Wonderful Mistake

The Gratz Vella-trained galloper has been in good touch this preparation and with a major gear change here, looks set for career win number two in this event.

Last start, the Flying Artie filly was third-up and not disgraced when finishing a close-up fifth in a BM58 over 1010m at Moruya.

Settling back in the field, Louise Day steered her through traffic in the run home and once clear, hit the line strongly, beaten less than a length on the line.

Well drawn in gate six today, she maps to settle near mid-field with cover as Damon Budler returns for his third ride on the filly, after steering her to runner-up finishes twice previously.

The stable fit the tongue tie here for the first time and at her peak, fourth-up today, she will take plenty of beating in this contest.

Race 5: No.3  Beauty Edge

Clint Lundholm saddles-up the Hellbent gelding here who has been mixing his form this time in but looks in the mix for a podium finish in this event.

Last start, the five-year-old bounced back from a disappointing effort at Dubbo when he easily accounted for a BM50 Hcp over 1280m at Gilgandra.

Zoe Hunt had him leading on settling and after setting a good pace early, went on to win by more than a length on the line.

Drawn out in barrier eight today, she maps to push forward and be sitting on or near the speed early with Hunt steering the ship again.

Back in the winner’s circle now, a trouble-free run here should see the filly there at the finish of this contest.

Race 8: No.3  Fox Appeal

The Craig Weeding-trained galloper is in great touch this preparation and returning from a tough metropolitan outing, looks much better placed here and in this class, looks the one to beat in this year’s Cup.

Last start, the Foxwedge gelding came off a big win in the Cooma Cup when he stepped-up sharply in grade and found the task a little too rich when finishing unplaced in a No Metro Win event over 1600m at Flemington.

Sent out a $61 chance, he drew the outside gate (11) and settled last early before tracking wide in the straight, managing to pass a few in the run home, but clearly outclassed in the race.

Back to country class competition today, he draws well in gate six where he maps to settle mid-field or better and has Nick Heywood aboard for the first time.

Already boasting a country cup victory (two starts back), he can bounce back here at take home the silverware in this contest.
