Caulfield Racing Tips for June 27 – Promising filly set to rule the race early at Caulfield
- Luna Cat is a strong each-way chance in Race 2 after a fast-finishing run.
- Race For Rule is well placed in Race 3 with a consistent record and weight advantage.
- He’ll Rip offers value in Race 8 if accepted, thriving in soft track conditions.
Caulfield racing takes place on Saturday, June 27, with a program set down for Caulfield.
Here are our best bets from the meeting, which is one of the major metropolitan meetings from around Australia on June 27 with the Group 1 Tattersalls Tiara to be run and won at Eagle Farm.
Race 2 No.9- Luna Cat
Luna Cat shapes as an each-way contender in Race 2 at Caulfield. The Team Hayes mare continues to race well without winning and came close last time at Caulfield over 1200m on a Heavy track when runner-up behind Flyer. The seven-year-old was a tad unlucky there when she was blocked for a run and had to come to the inside on the inferior going before finishing just under a length from the winner. She went 7.5 lengths faster than standard, which is the best last-start figure of any runner, and her best performance came this time last year on a similar surface when going nearly 14 lengths faster than standard at the track and trip. She carries 53kg with apprentice Jackson Radley aboard and, while there is a bit of an unknown about the Caulfield surface on paper, she maps well from barrier 2. With luck at the right time, she represents clear value at the odds.
Race 3 No.5- Race For Rule
Going with Race For Rule in Race 3. The Robbie Griffiths filly has finished in the top two in all four career starts and worked hard early to sit on a strong tempo at Sandown over 1200m on a Heavy track back on June 13, going six lengths faster than standard until the 600m mark before being collared late by Afterberna. She meets that horse 2.5kg better at the weights, with little separating them on that occasion, and has been crunched in the early betting. The daughter of Magnus is likely to box-seat behind the leading pair from barrier 4 and has the option to peel into better ground when they straighten. She should prove hard to beat.
Race 8 No.17- He’ll Rip
Hoping He'll Rip can sneak into the field in Race 8. The Corstens/Larkin-trained galloper is one of the four emergencies and has been building nicely this preparation, finishing half a length from the winner at Bendigo two starts ago after being posted wide without cover throughout. That has turned into a strong form race, with three winners coming out of it since. He then stepped up to 1400m at Flemington and kept coming late to finish runner-up behind Rocco in narrow fashion. The six-year-old needs a surface with a bit of sting out of the ground and, if the track maintains its Soft rating, he should thrive in the conditions. The son of Hellbent comes into this fourth-up, should be at peak fitness and is another that appeals at double-figure odds.
