Steve Bennett picks out his blackbookers and horses to follow from Saturday racing at Rosehill on 21 February.

Race 4: BM78 Hcp (1300m) – Captain Furai

The Chris Waller-trained galloper was second-up on Saturday and turned plenty of heads with a last-to-first effort in this event.

Drawn the outside gate (12), Nash Rawiller took him back to the tail of the field where he sat until the turn, then after railing like a greyhound, had to cross heels for some racing room and eventually came down the centre of the track, arriving in time to claim victory by almost a length on the line.

Now back to race fitness, he has placed twice from three third-up appearances and after this big effort, looks well worth following from here on in.

Race 7: Parramatta Cup (Group 3) (1900m) – Piggyback

The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper was second-up on Saturday with the Cup as his main mission and didn’t disappoint punters when he claimed victory as the $3.10 favourite.

Dylan Gibbons settled him mid-field early before coming off the fence in the run home and after scouting wide in search for some running room, found clean air and stormed home to grab the win in the final few metres.

He now has seven career wins on his resume and there appears to be scope for more this preparation.

Race 10: BM94 (1100m) – Kerguelen

Joe Pride saddled-up the Godolphin galloper on Saturday who resumed after 18-weeks off the scene and caught the eye with a big finishing win in this event.

Adam Hyeronimus settled him back in the field and on straightening, was still spotting the leaders six lengths before threading his way through the field where he managed to slide under his stablemate (Tonkin) and arrive in time to grab the win in the final stride.

He can only strip fitter from that first-up effort and clearly looks worthwhile following from here.
