Who were the eyecatchers, who should you add to your black book for upcoming races and meetings and who do we recommended following in the weeks and months ahead?
Race 1: Benchmark 78 Hcp (1500m) – Agent Zero
The Ciaron Maher-trained gelding was second-up on Saturday and caught the eye with a solid win in the first of the day.
Nash Rawiller settle him just behind the speed where he travelled well to the turn, then in the run home, wore down the front runners and showed plenty of dash to go on and score by a length on the line while carrying top weight (58kgs).
Already a winner when third-up, he appears to have plenty more to offer so stick with him for now.
Race 3: Benchmark 78 Hcp (1300m) – Fiddlers Green
The Team Archibald-trained gelding was fresh after 20 weeks in the paddock and impressed when finishing third in this event.
Sent out a $17 chance, Mollie Fitzgerald settle him back in the field to the turn, then sticking to the inside, he blocked for a run, then held up to the 250m point before squeezing through traffic and did well to grab the minor prize on the line.
Boasting wins when second and third-up previously, keep him safe for a few more yet.
Race 4: BM68, Midway Hcp (1500m) – Stand My Ground
The Hawkesbury-based mare resumed after more than six months off the scene and against the odds, impressed with a spectacular first-up win in this race.
Jumping from the carpark in gate 17 (of 18), Tyler Schiller settled him in the back-half of the field where he was never closer that four horses from the fence to the turn, then scouting even wider on the turn, he sustained a full and complete run to line then after finding the front, held off the challenges to take home the gold medal in the end.
A lightly-raced five-year-old, she has two wind from her five starts to date and looks set to go on with it this preparation.
