Race 5: No.7 Doubtfree
The Donna Scott-trained galloper is back on track after two starts this time in and meets enough of the criteria here to suggest he can figure in the finish of this event.
Last start, the Dubious gelding stepped-up in grade and showed plenty of improvement off his first-up run when he took out a BM56 over 1300m at Wangaratta.
Ridden a treat by Blaike McDougall, he settled him fourth one off the fence to the turn, then tracked wide to find clean air and in the run home finished far too good for the 14-strong field, putting almost two lengths on them in the end.
Stepping-up slightly again in grade here, he jumps from gate nine and maps to push forward and cross to settle better than mid-field with Nick Heywood as the new pilot.
Placed twice in his only two starts at the track, he should feel at home and fitter after those two runs back, he looks in the mix in this contest.
Race 6: No.6 Salina Special
The Team Ledger-trained galloper has found his feet after two runs this preparation and should prove hard to beat in this event.
Last start, the Overshare gelding was second-up and looked impressive when he clobbered his rivals in a BM52 over 1400m at Wodonga.
From gate four, Zac Moore settled him fifth one off the fence to the turn where he appeared to be under pressure but in the run home, he grew another leg and whizzed past the leaders, going on to score by more than two lengths on the line.
Stepping-up to BM58 company here, he maps to settle in the back-half of the field while rising to the 1600m trip.
Alice Kennedy is legged aboard for the first time and fitter for those two runs back, the four-year-old looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 7: No.3 Shapenapit
Paul McVicar saddles-up Shapenapit here who is high-flying this campaign and looks well placed here to chalk-up her second win in this event.
Last start, the Bivouac mare made it back-to-back runner-up prizes when she beat all but one home in a Class 1 Hcp over 1300m at Bendigo.
Harry Coffey had her leading on settling where she set a solid pace to the turn, then in the run home, she was stalked by the $1.50 favourite to that point, who then got the better of her and sent to score by two lengths in the end, leaving the mare to take home the silver medal for the race.
Ideally drawn here in gate two, she maps to settle in the first half-dozen with Blaike McDougall having his first ride on the mare.
In career-best form and at her peak here, a trouble-free run should see her fighting out the finish of this contest.
