Who were the eyecatchers, who should you add to your black book for upcoming races and meetings and who do we recommended following in the weeks and months ahead?
Race 1: Two-Year-Old Hcp (1200m) – Parisest Magic
On debut, the Prague filly was sent out a $71 outsider and certainly started that way when she failed to go with them and on settling was tailed off, a dozen lengths from the lead and while no chance of winning, turned plenty of heads when she stormed home to grab third prize in the race.
The winner clocked 1:09.7 for the 1200m which makes the Alexandre Lemarie-trained filly’s effort even more noteworthy.
Keep this one safe for now and in particular, watch her next start where if she jumps with them, she will strip fitter and could be close to a win after this effort.
Race 2: BM72 Hcp (1200m) – Queen’s Rhapsody
The David Pfieffer-trained mare was second-up on Saturday and never on the track, settled back in the field, three-deep without cover to the turn.
Scouting even wider on straightening, she put in the big strides in the run home, finishing better than any other as she crossed the line in sixth place, 2.5 lengths from the winner.
Placed when third-up previously, she will strip fitter for two runs back and shouldn’t be far away from her next victory.
Race 6: BM78 Hcp (2100m) – King Of The Sea
The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper was second-up on Saturday and turned plenty of heads with his whirlwind finish in this event.
Adam Farragher settled him back near the tail of the field, spotting the leader ten lengths or more before working into the race on the turn, then in the run home, hit the line strongly to collar all but the first two past the post in a fast-run race.
The former British galloper won his last three starts before arriving in Australia and going by his efforts here, he will soon be collecting the winner’s cheque on Australian tracks as well.
