Racing was at Flemington on Saturday May 17 for a nine-race programme that featured the Andrew Ramsden Stakes (2800m).
  • Race 2, Two-Year-Olds (1400m)- Buccleuch
  • Race 3, BenchMark 78, Fillies & Mares (1200m)- Cindy Falls
  • Race 4, Three-Year-Olds (1400m)- Big Sexy
  • Race 6, Listed (1200m)- Lim’s Kosciuszko

Here are our blackbookers and horses to follow from the meeting.

Race 2, Two-Year-Olds (1400m)- Buccleuch

The two-year-olds lined up in Race 2 of the day and it was Highvol that continued the perfect start to his career with a win. Buccleuch improved off a debut 6th at Pakenham by filling the exacta. The Patrick & Michelle Payne-trained galloper attracted support at a bit of a price and settled worse than midfield. He suffered some early interference before working home with the fastest last 600m, 400m and 200m. The son of Peltzer clearly enjoyed the extra 400m in distance and shapes as a future winner over further ground.

Race 3, BenchMark 78, Fillies & Mares (1200m)- Cindy Falls

It was a solid first-up performance by Cindy Falls in Race 3 of the afternoon. The six-year-old claimed the Leilani Series Final (1400m) at Flemington last winter then didn't quite measure up to some Group races in the spring. She might be more suited to racing at this time of year and was last of the 12 runners down the 1200m straight six and was held up from the 400m to the 250m before coming home with the fastest last 200m of the entire meeting. The former Kiwi was a second up winner last year and is definitely one to keep an eye on at her next start.

Race 4, Three-Year-Olds (1400m)- Big Sexy

Big Sexy was a bit of a luckless runner in Race 4, which saw the three-year-olds in action. The Maddie Raymond-trained galloper was jumping sharply in grade from a debut win at Warrnambool and settled back in the field of 10 before being held up for a period of time from the 500m to the 250m before shifting in and closing off with the fastest last 200m behind Zourain, placing 6th. He can make his mark in similar or easier races at his next couple of starts.

Race 6, Listed (1200m)- Lim’s Kosciuszko

It was a solid first up performance by the former Singapore galloper, Lim’s Kosciuszko in Race 6. A winner of 22 of 31 starts, he was a bit easy in the market but defied the drift and the 60.5kg to run 3rd behind Title Fighter to kick off his stint in Australia. He didn't enjoy much room in the dying stages but managed to finish half a length from the winner. Keep an eye out for him going forward.
